Travel, like an accomplishment, is better when you have someone to share it with. As a version of an old adage goes, “Friends that travel together, stay together.” Truly, a weekend getaway with the squad is one of the best experiences life has to offer. Look no further and check out four of the best United States destinations for traveling with friends.

1. Homer, Alaska

This small city in the Kenai Peninsula borough of Alaska is more than just a spot for fishing and hunting for tourists from all over. Creatively dubbed as the “cosmic hamlet by the sea,” the view offered by this place by the end of the road is simply breathtaking. With the pristine scenery and the uncanny fusion of the classic fisherman’s village and an artists’ community, no wonder Homer was recently named as one of America’s happiest seaside towns by a lifestyle magazine.

Take the squad to a quick stop at the Pratt Museum, a regional natural history museum which aims to preserve the stories of the Kachemak Bay region. It has indoor exhibits focused on Native Alaskan traditions, contemporary art, and a display of flora and fauna around Kachemak Bay. On the other hand, its outdoor exhibits include a replica of a historic cabin and a nature trail for you and your friends to explore.

And what better way to end the day than a stay at the Tutka Bay Lodge, which is a boat ride away from the city and an opportunity to relax and take in the picturesque landscape. Also, you can also take yoga classes by the ocean side, take cooking classes courtesy of a world-class chef, and finally feel the warmth of the Alaskan midnight sun.

2. Tucson, Arizona

If you prefer the desert as your group photo backdrops, Tucson, Arizona, will definitely come along in your list one way or the other. The famous Saguaro National Park, named for its large species of cacti flanking the city of Tucson in its east and west sections. Challenge the trails with the dramatic desert sun and settle down in one of its six designated campsites within the Saguaro Wilderness Area.

The city’s Canyon Ranch is a wellness resort and spa where the group can either refresh and relax or try out the famous High Ropes Challenge course together. It is a series of challenges which relates to daily life, such as improving one’s communication skills and ability to work under pressure. Afterwards, reward yourself and the team in its spas and acupuncture clinics. But more than the group activities and amenities available, this resort outpost in Tucson also offers a spiritual wellness center for meditation and better finding, and reconnecting with oneself.

3. Lodi, California

California has grown into one of the modern must-see destinations for leisure and adventure. While the state has countless destinations to visit and activities to experience, one of the most underrated entries in its local tourism scene has to be its own wine region, Lodi. Get ready for a weekend of fun, dine, and most importantly, wine in this small farming town less than an hour’s travel from Sacramento.

Almost 90 wineries operate in Lodi, creating a humble yet relaxing scene for cycling, running, paddle boarding, and even shopping. Most importantly, this town is making a name for itself with a long list of vineyard tours and activities, with each one promising a unique and memorable experience. Its wineries also range from small and modest, to others which are large and bustling comparable to its brethren in winemaking capitals such as Napa and Sonoma.

For those looking beyond the rich, tasteful wines from its vineyards, you can also take a look inside any of Lodi’s historical and natural attractions. The San Joaquin County Historical Museum has a mix of indoor and outdoor exhibits capturing its local county heritage from the life of its natives to the diverse agriculture nurtured in the area. Another sight to behold is the Lodi Serpentarium is more of a living reptile museum which houses a variety of snakes and lizards guests can interact with.

While there are options to choose from, one of the best inns to call it a day in is the Inn at Locke House. Located along the length of the Elliott Road, the 19th century lodge is a restored farmhouse and maintains its classical façade but keeps its suites modern and comfortable. Enjoy the lush gardens, bluffs, ranches, and vineyards. The stay includes a free breakfast made from local produce. Relax, and enjoy the passing moments of your stay in the Lodge with a glass of California wine.

4. Fort Lauderdale, Florida

No travel list would be complete without the standard beach getaway for you and your friends. This Fort Lauderdale vacation might be your next destination once you find out the gems hiding in this city.

Tourists flock to the Sunshine state mostly for the beaches and for Disneyland. The latter, however, seems to be not for everyone with its increasing prices and ever- growing crowds. Fort Lauderdale also makes noise in the tourism scene with its wide and sandy beaches. Most of these landmark beaches run along the length of the ocean highway A1A. This especially attracts professional and hobbyist runners who love a stretch with an ocean view, with the A1A Half Marathon usually held in February.

There are a lot of hotels offering that beachside experience. The Conrad and Westin are some of the usual places to stay in but perhaps the award goes to the Marriott’s vibrant beach hotel, boasting the largest private beach. Fill up an album of Instagrammable pictures in its amenities including a tropical lagoon pool and an indoor spa.

Aside from its beaches with stunning views of both sunrise and sunset, you and your friends can step off the beach shoes and take the weekend off by shopping and strolling along Las Olas Boulevard. The popular thoroughfare features subtropical breezeways and courtyards filled with bars and boutiques to splurge and enjoy.

While the USA is home to almost every squad adventure imaginable, you can start planning for the next escapade with these destinations. Nothing beats the fun and comfort of travelling with people you trust, and who trust you also. Create new experiences and keep amazing memories to look back in a few years.
